As part of this project, ENGIE will re-design, install, commission, operate and maintain the revamped compressed air system to produce compressed air to meet the requirements of UAC’s manufacturing operations in Ipoh. The new state-of-the-art air compressors and digital remote control and monitoring system is expected to improve the quality and supply reliability of compressed air and reduce disruption to the production activities of the plant.
This project will also improve the overall energy efficiency of the compressed air system by more than 18%. The design flow capacity will increase to 6,500 m3 per hour, delivering approximately 40 million m3 of compressed air per year to the production line through a distribution piping network.
Pierre Cheyron, CEO of ENGIE Services Asia Pacific, said: “We are delighted to partner with UAC Berhad, the leading manufacturer of cellulose fibre cement boards in Malaysia, to deliver innovative green technology and energy efficient solutions for their manufacturing activities in Ipoh. This is fully aligned with UAC’s mission to efficiently use its energy resources and to reduce waste and emissions.”
With its 18% energy efficiency gain, this project will also result in a reduction in power consumption of approximately 1.0 GWh(e) or 520 tons of CO2 per year.
In accordance with the aim of the ratified Paris Agreement[1] to reduce carbon emissions by 2030, Malaysia has pledged to reduce its greenhouse emissions by 45% by 2030 and cut 32 million tons of carbon emissions by 2020.
