ENGIE recently hosted its second educational visit to the Kerian Solar installation in Malaysia, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a positive learning culture and promoting awareness of renewable energy solutions.
On 9 June 2024, 28 final-year students and a lecturer from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) participated in an immersive learning experience at the 100 MW solar farm, a landmark project commissioned under the Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) initiatives.
During this visit, students were provided with hands-on knowledge about various components of utility-scale solar energy, including solar panels, inverters, transformers, pyranometers, SCADA Monitoring systems, and transmission lines. The event was orchestrated by ENGIE's dedicated O&M team at Kerian Solar, who, alongside their partners, shared invaluable insights and expertise, helping bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry practice.
This educational engagement is part of ENGIE's broader mission to accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral world through innovative energy solutions. By opening our facilities to students, we aim to:
Aiman Arif, Site Manager LSS3 100MWAC Kerian Solar:
“We are happy that Universiti Teknologi MARA [UiTM] had created a more resilient and environmentally friendly future by teaching students about solar energy. The impact of solar energy technology on education will change as it develops, presenting fresh chances for study, creativity, and teamwork.”
Dr. Habibah binti Zulkefle, Senior Lecturer Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) :
“Kerian Solar provided comprehensive explanations and exposure to students regarding safety aspects and solar systems. Excellent service was offered by all Kerian Solar staff, who also provided advice and guidance not only on solar systems but also on job opportunities for engineering graduates”
Site tours like these are crucial in providing practical, real-world experience, fostering enthusiasm for careers in sustainable energy, and promoting the importance of renewable energy in the global energy transition.
