No Mind at Risk: Safety A Core Focus Everyday
At ENGIE, safety is not an afterthought—it’s a value deeply embedded into everything we do. Across Southeast Asia, our colleagues embrace this mindset every day, ensuring that safety is not just about rules, but about responsibility, care, and trust.
This World Safety Day, we reaffirm our commitment to ENGIE One Safety and the principle of “No Mind at Risk”, creating environments where people feel protected, supported, and empowered to act. That means not only guarding against physical harm, but also fostering mental resilience, psychological safety, and a culture of care.
When well-being is prioritised, people thrive and when minds are at ease, workplaces are truly safe.
Here’s how our people bring safety to life at work, wherever they are.
Leading by Example: Mental and Physical Safety Start with Us
Leadership plays a crucial role in embedding safety into culture—not just in words, but in actions. Whether it’s through enforcing procedures or setting the tone for mental wellness, leaders are key to building a culture where everyone feels safe to speak up, stay present, and look out for one another.
Gayathri Gopal, Vice President, Venture Build, ENGIE Factory APAC - “I lead by example by following all safety protocols and emphasising their importance to my teams and the startups we collaborate with. I ensure that safety protocols are clearly communicated and consistently followed, fostering a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility”
Tang Yee Wah, Managing Director, ENGIE Lab Singapore - “Leadership must set the tone. When we consistently prioritise health and safety—especially when it’s inconvenient or overlooked—we send a clear message: safety is never optional.”
Edward Yee, Senior Manager, Engineering, ENGIE Services Malaysia - “Compliance may keep you out of trouble, but true safety is what ensures everyone goes home unharmed. Embrace safety as a personal responsibility, because the decisions you make directly impact lives.”

Turning Awareness into Action: Mindfulness as a Safety Tool
True safety culture lives in the everyday actions of our people. Whether it’s taking that extra second to run a final check or encouraging peers to speak up, being mentally alert and emotionally grounded plays a huge role in preventing harm.
Seet Kwang Jen, Assistant Sustainability Manager, ENGIE Services Singapore - “Performing a final safety check or inspection before starting any task ensures that potential risks are identified and addressed at that moment. This ‘last-minute risk assessment’ is crucial for preventing accidents.”
Joel Delos Reyes, Project Manager, ENGIE Services Philippines - “I encourage open reporting of hazards and near misses without fear, ensuring safety is a shared responsibility. By consistently enforcing these rules across all our projects, this helps to prevent incidents and protects our people.”

Grounded Safety, Tailored to Every Site—and Every Mind
Each worksite in Southeast Asia comes with its own set of physical challenges—but the need for mental clarity, communication, and cultural understanding is universal. Through team support, clear systems, and inclusive communication, we’re ensuring that no one is left behind, and no mind is at risk.
Riduwan Kamsani, Assistant Manager, Health, Safety, Security, Environment, ENGIE South East Asia - “Each worksite in Southeast Asia brings unique safety challenges, but one principle holds true: a strong foundation in safety systems, tailored to local contexts, helps protect both people and operations. My role is to support our teams with practical, on-the-ground compliance and clear safety frameworks so we can prevent issues before they arise.”
Aaron Foo, Senior Project Manager, ENGIE RCS - “One challenge we faced in promoting safety was the language barrier among workers from different countries at the job site. It made consistent communication of safety rules more difficult. To ensure everyone understands our safety rules, our engineers and supervisors assisted the safety team with translations, making sure all workers can adhere to the safety guidelines.”

Safe by Design: Building Mental Readiness into Every Step
As we modernise our operations with digital tools and sustainable practices, we’re also introducing innovations that support focus, mental preparedness, and peace of mind.
John Teo, Engineer, Maintenance Services, ENGIE ITS - “Good sustainability and maintenance practices help keep people safe in the long run by ensuring equipment and systems operate efficiently and reliably. They reduce the risk of unexpected failures or hazards—like leaks, fires, or structural issues—and create environments that are healthier and more stable over time.”
Mazlan Hadi, IS Operations Manager – IT, ENGIE Supply & Energy Management, Asia Pacific - “Before entering high- or medium-risk zones, we use a QR code self-check quiz. It helps employees assess their readiness and stay mindful before starting work. This simple digital step reinforces ENGIE’s goal: no life and no mind at risk.”

A Shared Commitment, A Safer Tomorrow
Our safety culture is shaped by the people who live it every day. By taking ownership, looking out for one another, and building systems that support mindfulness, accountability, and mental health, our teams are leading the way to a future where no mind is at risk—and where safety is truly holistic.
This World Safety Day, we celebrate their dedication—and recommit ourselves to making safety a constant, everywhere we operate.
